Each type of ink comes with its own style of printing. Here are the different types of inks used in printers.
Printers use a variety of different inks like laser printers use powder-based ink and inkjet printers use dye-based liquid ink. Each type of ink comes with its own style of printing. Here, are the different types of inks used in printers.
Types of Ink Used in Printers
This type of ink is most often used in inkjet printers and can be found in two forms, dye-based, and pigment-based inks. Pigment-based inks are expensive as compared to dye-based inks, but they are more resistant to fading whereas the image produced using dye-based ink can fade over time or when exposed to ultraviolet rays.
Laser and LED printers use toner which is a dry form of ink. The toner is transferred with the help of a spinning drum which uses heat to fuse the toner to the paper. No doubt laser and LED printers are faster than inkjet but they cannot produce the same quality of color as liquid ink models.
Some printers use solid ink instead of liquid ink. This is a waxy ink and solid ink sticks are heated to melt a print onto a page. It is capable of producing high-quality glossy prints but solid ink printers take a good time to heat up and can also leave a noticeable texture on the page.
Dot matrix and thermal transfer printers use ribbon ink for printing. In the case of dot matrix printers, the ink-soaked ribbon is pressed against the page to print and thermal transfer printers use ribbon that has a wax or resin coating. Color printout is limited and the output is not high resolution.
UV ink can be used on a wide range of substrates like plastic, glass, and metal. This type of ink is cured onto the printing surface in the presence of sunlight. UV inks are quite expensive and it also dries quickly.
Latex ink printers allow printing on various surfaces like vinyl. Latex ink is very safe as it doesn’t have any toxic chemicals and it also has high jetting reliability and excellent color reproducibility.
Above discussed are some of the different types of inks used in printers and one should consider these before picking the right one for your new or existing printers.
